Car manufacturers are aware that Indian buyers have started preferring compact SUVs and more and more companies are coming with their compact SUV products. Renault, Mahindra and Mahindra and Ford have already introduced their compact SUV’s in the Indian market. Though Renault and Ford are experiencing good response, the Indian brand premier is finding the going difficult.  The home grown company failed to get expected sales where as Ecosport has moved miles ahead. Ford EcoSport is offered in three engine options such as 1.0-litre EcoBoost, 1.5-litre TiVCT and 1.5-litre TDCi. Premier Rio is offered in three engine options which include 1.2-litre MPFI, 1.5-litre turbo diesel and 1.3-litre CRDi4.

Ford Ecosport Far Better Than Homegrown Premier Rio Compact SUV

The 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine produces 123 bhp of power and 170 Nm of torque whereas 1.5-litre TiVCT engine generates 110 bhp of power and 140 Nm of torque.  The 1.5-litre TDCi engine churns out 89 bhp of power alongside 204 Nm of torque. The petrol version of Rio produces 76.6 bhp of power while the 1.5-litre diesel engine produces 64.8 bhp. The CRDi4 engine has the ability to give out 72 bhp of power.  This means that Ecosport from Ford leads in terms of engine and performance when compared to Rio. Appearance wise also Ecosport is more appealing to the customers. Though the company has given certain facelift treatment to the Rio it cannot still match with the design of Ecosport. The interior of the Rio is spacious and simple where as that of Ecosport offers style and sensibility.  Pricing of the Ecosport is higher than Rio, even then Rio has failed to attract customers mainly because it failed to match the standards and practicality offered by the rival.

This is great news for people who loved to buy Mahindra XUV500 and are just hesitating due to its high price. There are reports that the ground clearance of this vehicle is being lowered from its existing 200mm. It is said that the XUV500 would now be coming out with just 160 mm ground clearance which means that it will only need to spend lower excise duty. There will be a minimum of three percent savings in the excise duty which means that the Mahindra XUV500 would be lesser by about Rs. 27,000 to Rs. 33,000.

Low Priced Mahindra XUV500 to Hit the Roads Soon

Pawan Goenka, President of Mahindra and Mahindra, has announced that the XUV 500  would be incorporating the above mentioned change and the new specification of the vehicle will enable the company to sell the car at about Rs. 28,000 to Rs. 30,000 lower than its current price. He also said that a stone guard has also been fitted under the powertrain in order to protect the vehicle from uneven and gutter roads. The reduction of the ground clearance will not have any adverse effect on the performance of the vehicle. The Government’s new policy that the  SUV’s with a 1500 cc engine capacity and over 170mm ground clearance need to pay an excise duty of 30%, which is three more than the earlier year. This might have prompted Mahindra & Mahindra to reduce the ground clearance of XUV500.
